I’m Amy. Wife, mother of four, massage therapist, soon-to-be nursing school student, resident of suburbia. The message “Change Your Life” has always brought up images of me hightailing it to a beach side hut, practicing yoga and eating coconuts all day. I’ve discovered, however, that changing your life can mean changing YOU and your day-to-day existence. I don’t have to uproot my family, meet all new people, or even move across town in order to change the quality of my life. I can start with small changes that allow me to be more conscious of myself and the world around me, and most importantly, more deliberate in my relationships with others, my environment, and God.
They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. I don’t know who “they” are, and this could be total BS, but I’m running with it. This year I’m going to take on a new challenge each month, research it, live it, and blog the heck out of it. This idea sounds brilliant in my head, but could end up being tedious and horrific. That’s how life goes, though, and I’m always up for a good challenge.
I realize it’s not quite 2010 as I write this (heck, it’s not even December 2009) but I’d like to take the end of the year, December 2010, as a sort of recap. Okay, honestly I just made that up because I want to go ahead and get started, but it sounds like a good plan.
Please feel free to leave comments, feedback, and ideas for challenges. I would also love to have company while attempting these changes, and encourage you to reach out of your comfort zone and join me in bettering ourselves and the world around us. Or, think of it as throwing down the gauntlet, and see if you can beat me at my own game. It’s so on.
Hey Amy!
Love the blog! I’ve been tossing around the vegan thing but just haven’t been able to commit yet. Stopped eating meat earlier this year so I figure it isn’t much of a stretch! May have to wait til January to start but can’t wait to hear how things are going for you. You mentioned being tired before, have you tried a B12 supplement?
Good luck on the blog and the challenges!
Amy
Amy, what made you decide to go veggie? And thanks for the B12 suggestion…will definitely pick some up.
I went veggie mostly to lose weight. I really didn’t eat much meat before anyways so it wasn’t that difficult for me. Also read Skinny Bitch and saw Food Inc around the same time….really helped kick me over the edge! Helps that Darren goes along with it most of the time too. He will eat meat but sticks pretty veggie at home.
You go girl! Wow, I miss one meeting and there you go. I have also been looking at vegan books in the bookstore lately. I bought my daughter ( the first granola girl I knew) a book on how to cook fresh from each season. Kinda of like shake hands with the person who grew your food. I will locate you a copy if you like. It sounds like a great way to start your year. Who knows, sounds pretty healthy to me.
P.S. Please don’t do the Dorito thing. 🙂
Debbie, which books did you find? And I can’t help it with the Doritos. I love those nasty things! I am trying to cut WAAAY back on the processed foods, but sometimes Doritos and a Diet Coke sneak their way in. Okay, lots of times. But I’m working on it!
